Community

The Church is involved with residents and neighbours of the local villages, taking part in local events and forming friendships.

  • Annual BBQ – This is held in the summer when friends and neighbours join us for lunch at the Church.

  • Baptisms and fellowship lunches – To which all are welcome.

  • Remembrance Day – We usually join with the congregation of St John’s, Aust, for a service to remember those in the village who gave their lives for their country and our freedom.

  • The Foodbank – The Church collects groceries for the Bristol North West foodbank in order to help families who are struggling to make ends meet. We also have some involvement with distribution.

  • Local Church Involvement – As a part of the community we reach out to the local community in the Community Magazine 'Meeting Point'. For more information visit the Olveston and Aust Community Website.

Ladies Groups

The older ladies meet every Thursday at one of their homes from 2.00pm – 4.00pm. We have been knitting tiny garments for the premature babies in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, but currently our project is making teddies and small blankets for children in trauma, in world disaster areas. We then share any known problems or illnesses which we have a burden for, after which we pray together about it. Finally we enjoy a welcome cup of tea!

The younger ladies meet on a Wednesday at 8pm. We have a cup of tea/coffee and biscuit with a time of sharing, then a short reading and discussion. We write down items for prayer and enjoy looking back how God has answered and finish with each praying about the items we have included.

French Connection

Robert and Christine Staley met when they were working for the Operation Mobilisation Team in France. When they were back in the UK God called them and their four children to live and witness in Montluçon. As close friends of the Church, we continue to support them in their vision.

By running an Alpha Course and personally witnessing, a family came to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. As a result Jean-Michel (a surgeon in a French clinic), his wife Pascale and their teenage children were baptised in their own swimming pool. It was a precious time and God's presence was very real. The work continues with them now running the “Active” group with Robert and Christine continuing to encourage and pray for the needs of those around them.
